Working on the new MyRVAdvantage.com website has taught me a lot over the last few weeks about our products and services and just what it takes to get a new website launched. Mostly it has reminded me that setting up and maintaining a website is a ton of work. It's easy for me to talk to customer and advise them on how to do manage their websites, but doing it yourself gives you a new appreciation for the sheer amount of grunt work required to publish something halfway decent.
The concept for the new website was mine, so everyone else agreed and then took two steps back when I asked for volunteers. No problem, how hard can this be anyway. We create websites all the time for our clients Surely this can be done quickly.
Well, I'm three week in and am only now beginning to see the end. The good news is that I like the direction the site is going this time. Our last site was a quick replacement from a previous version of our software to the latest one. The cutover fell right in the middle of about a hundred customer cutovers so it was definitely a “back burner” project. This time, I felt a huge responsibility to the project in my new role in marketing the company and our products. I’ve long felt we’ve not taken our own client advice when it came to our company websites and this was a chance to simplify it while making it more informative, educational, and hopefully, easier to use as a tool to do business with the company. Time will tell how well my master plan for the website pans out. For now, I’m excited to have complete control and to be able to focus and dedicate my time to this project.
Stay tuned…I’ll post more as it comes about this project.
